Here’s A Little About Me

Who I am

I love coffee, I grew up on a farm, have a passion for good food and I play rugby. Please call me Joe.

I am an architectural designer with passion for creating experiential spaces through the medium of high quality functionality. Graduating from a degree in Architectural Technology in 2013, I look to involve myself in project environments that satisfy this fervor, develop me as a professional and for me to ultimately learn as much as I can in order to bring knowledge to the next opportunity.

My previous employment has allowed me to experience a hugely varied project palette, ranging from being involved in the bespoke interior fit out of high caliber office and specialist space design, to planetarium design, all the way to bespoke culinary outlet design and a barn conversion. The beauty of a career in architecture means the options of what you decide to focus on can be limitless. I have been incredibly privileged with my project involvement and endeavor to learn and improve from all my experiences, to develop professionally and hopefully continue to work on amazing things.

I have a particular interest in the integration of technology within functional spaces, understanding people, their habits & workflows and how these factors can be streamlined together to make the seamless intertwine of productivity and usability.

“Technology is the hand we need to work, architecture is the glove it fits into”

I set up as a sole trader in order to gather freelance work experience, exploring opportunities in other project areas that I might not be able to have the benefit of learning from otherwise. Please take a look at my portfolio pages to see some of the things I have been able to work on.

Visual Acuity Ltd.

Visual Acuity is a technology consultancy who work alongside architects and wider design teams implementing design guidance & knowledge on a consulting basis throughout the design, fit-out and management of a project. Main aspects of work included development of the brief, working closely with the client team in order to understand the fine details of workflow and building use, concept development & detailed design guidance, right the way through to the management of technology integration during a build.

Whilst working for Visual Acuity, I was fortunate enough to be part of a unique team working alongside the likes of Foster + Partners, Grontmij Engineering, Grimshaw Architects, American Museum of Natural History and Meyersound Labs (to name a few) on a  broad scope of projects within the built environment, implementing our niche as a technology consultancy.

My job role within this company was to provide a link between wider design teams of projects and the technology consulting knowledge of the business. I did this by working closely with designers, creating drawing documentation with a focus on developing concept designs for client approval and construction documentation for detailed design. Plying my trade within multi-million dollar projects, I liaised daily with design stakeholders in workshop environments, presenting options for coordination, addressing design impacts and potential clashes in order to provide clear, concise and sustainable solutions.
